Little Avenue in south-end Barrie will remain closed until Thursday, between Garden Drive and Huronia Road, after a watermain was repaired so that associated road work can be finished.

The city’s water department and its subcontractors extended the full road closure there. There is no through traffic.

The reason for the full road closure is "unforeseen circumstances."

“The watermain was repaired over the weekend, but crews were not able to access asphalt until today (Wednesday). Asphalt plants were not open on the long weekend,” said Sherry Diemert, the city’s infrastructure director.

“We don’t have the total cost of the repairs yet, but the city budgets and plans for these types of repairs," Diemert said.

This is the third extension of the full road closure.

It was first to be closed from 4:30 p.m. Feb. 16 until 6 p.m. Feb. 17, then that was extended until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Little will now be closed, tentatively, until noon on Feb. 23 from Garden to Huronia.

The detour route is Little Avenue to Huronia Road, to Big Bay Point Road, to Bayview Drive and back onto Little Avenue. Or Little to Bayview, to Burton Avenue, to Huronia and back to Little.
