Woman faces drug charge following Sunday's rollover in Letitia Heights

Police official says a resident had just left his driveway to go inside his home 'seconds' before the crash

A wild crash scene Sunday evening has led to a Barrie woman now facing a drug charge and more charges possibly coming.

A 32-year-old woman has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act after police say she fled the scene that left her pickup truck flipped onto its roof in the Letitia Heights neighbourhood.

The woman was treated at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) and released into police custody. She was held for a bail hearing.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday more charges are to be laid as the investigation continues.

“We’re looking into a number of contributing factors which led to the crash, speed being one of them,” said Leon on Monday. “We say this a lot, but it truly could have been a lot worse and it is amazing no one was injured.”

The pickup truck hit a car parked on the road and then a tree before coming to rest on its roof in the driveway of a home.

“There was a car parked on the lower half of the driveway and we believe someone was in that vehicle, so thankfully that car was not hit,” said Leon.

“Also, a man had just left that driveway and went inside the home seconds before the vehicle landed where it did," he added.
