INNISFIL - On Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. a call was received from a 20-year-old Innisfil man who was in distress after falling out of a kayak in rough waters several kilometers off the shore of Lefroy.

The man was alone and calling on a cell phone while in the rough and very cold water. Officers from South Simcoe Police and York Regional Police worked together to successfully find the man in the middle of the Lake after he had been adrift for over one hour.

The man was suffering from hypothermia and treated on land by paramedics. Police credit the man wearing a PFD and having a working cell phone with saving his life.

Police remind anyone on or near the water this time of year, that the conditions are not favourable for small water craft and the cold water and high winds and waves are very dangerous. Always wear a PFD, carry a cell phone and be aware of your location at all times.
