YEAR IN REVIEW: Tim Hortons puts lid on 5 Points location with permanent closure

No reason provided for closure or how many employees were affected; Company directs customers to nearby locations on Bayfield or Bradford streets

Editor's note: BarrieToday is republishing some of the most widely read stories from 2022.

A coffee shop in the heart of downtown Barrie has closed its doors for good.

The small Tim Hortons restaurant, located at 1 Dunlop St. E. at the city's Five Points intersection, has served its last double double.

A sign on the shuttered restaurant recently indicated the location was "now permanently closed."

BarrieToday reached out to corporate office, which confirmed the the closure.

"Yes, this restaurant is now closed. We are happy to let our guests know that there are plenty of options for them to get their favourite beverages and products from Tims including two nearby locations – 80 Bayfield St. S. or 80 Bradford St.," noted an emailed response from Tim Hortons media relations.

Representatives from Tim Hortons did not provide a specific reason as to why the location was closed.

It's also unclear how many employees were affected by the decision.
