INNISFIL - On Tuesday, November 17, 2015, an Innisfil woman reported a fraud.

She had received a text on November 10, and clicked on the link in the message, as she thought it was related to her employment.

She filled in an online form.

On Tuesday, she received a cheque in the mail for $2,569, along with a set of instructions.

She was to cash the cheque, then send funds via a wire service as a test of their customer service.

She would be allowed to keep $300 as a commission.

The woman correctly believed this to be a scam and immediately came to the  police.

This "Mystery Shopper" scam is commonplace.

If you receive a cheque like this in the mail, it will be counterfeit.

Do not cash it and do not send any money in return. Report immediately to your local police.

Never use a wire transfer service to send money to someone you don't know.
