September has begun and here at the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library we’re gearing up for exciting adult programs happening this month, including our Simcoe Reads 2020 author event and the long anticipated Simcoe Reads final debate.

First time hearing about Simcoe Reads? It’s not too late to participate and join our Innisfil community in this fun reading challenge!

Simcoe Reads 2020 is Simcoe County’s first-ever edition of Canada Reads! Innisfil ideaLAB & Library has joined Barrie, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Essa Township, and Midland in this friendly reading competition.

Each library has chosen one book with which to take part in the challenge, along with a local celebrity to champion the title. Innisfil’s book of choice is Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice and we are thrilled to have this title defended by our community champion, Mayor Lynn Dollin!

Want to join in the challenge? We invite you to participate by reading Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice along with the other Simcoe Reads book selections. The books are available as an e-book and e-audiobook through the library’s online resources or you can also borrow a physical book copy from our library branches.

Share your reading experience and connect with others in the community by writing and submitting reviews on any of the Simcoe Reads book selections! Did I mention there’s prizes? For each book review, you’ll receive one ballot entry for our grand prize draw, where lucky winners will receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant!

We’re also excited to be hosting a free, virtual author event with Waubgeshig Rice and featured guest, Mayor Dollin, on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 10. Waubgeshig Rice is originally from Wasauksing First Nation in Ontario and has written both novels and short story collections. In 2014, Rice received the Anishinabek Nation's Debwewin Citation for Excellence in First Nation storytelling. Mayor Dollin will interview Rice about Moon of Crusted Snow and his experiences as an author. We hope to see you there, virtually of course!

In late-September, tune in to see who will be crowned the winner, as community champions defend their book in a final debate. We’ll be cheering on Mayor Dollin as she champions Innisfil’s book and represents our library and the amazing community of Innisfil!

Remember, the fun doesn’t stop at Simcoe Reads! This fall brings many social and learning opportunities with adult programs, such as our Computer Classes, Tinkershops, Tuesday Adult Socials, and Crafting for Humanity.

The majority of programs are currently being offered virtually, although a selection of Tinkershops will be offered in person at the Lakeshore branch. Whether you’re looking to build your digital literacy skills, prepare yourself to search for new employment, or would like to socialize and participate in creative making, the library has a program for you! Visit our events website, innisfil.bibliocommons.com/events, to learn more and register for our upcoming adult programs. We can’t wait for you to join us!
