CONSEIL SCOLAIRE CATHOLIQUE MONAVENIR

TORONTO – Close to 17,400 students entered the doors of the 59 schools of the Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir this morning when classes resumed. This represented considerable growth compared to last year, in particular with a noted increase in the number of students registered at the secondary level.

This morning, École élémentaire catholique Frère-André in Barrie held a press conference to explain the strategic and innovative educational shift in the schools of the Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir.

During the meeting, those responsible for education informed the group that between now and 2021, all the schools of Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir will have a transformed area for learning in the digital age. This wide-ranging project will have an impact on all the schools of the school board.

This flexible area will be used by students at all levels and will help adapt the educational approach to the needs of the students in an environment aimed at developing overall skills in the digital age. This will help the sharing of educational strategies among staff members to ensure the success of all the students of Csc MonAvenir.

These areas adapted for learning in the digital age will have versatile furniture capable of being moved easily in order to allow for many arrangements, flexible class management and promote teamwork.

Students will have access to a wide array of technological and educational resources and have a number of various supporting tools to explore and show proofs of their learning: writing on paper, but also on many other surfaces (working desks, walls, floors, besides Chrome Book portable computers and interactive whiteboards). Here is a video (in French) that could give you a better idea of the use of these adapted areas.

"The Csc MonAvenir is always on the lookout for the latest trends in education capable of improving the output of students and offering them the best education. French-speaking Catholic schools are the destination of choice that will allow students to develop their full potential," stated Melinda Chartrand, chair of the board.

The beginning of the new school year is also a good time to acknowledge the remarkable work of the extraordinary teams working in the schools of Csc MonAvenir. This year, visual arts teacher Lise-Anne Thibault at École secondaire catholique Monseigneur-de-Charbonnel in Toronto received the learning and teaching award for the superb mural project that she created with twenty-three students from grades 10 to 12 as part of Black History Month.

This initiative highlighted twenty-four black people from various countries who have influenced black history in various ways. You can learn more on the project at this link (French).

"Congratulations to Lise-Anne Thibault for that remarkable initiative and to all the students who participated in the project. It is a beautiful work of art. I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the indispensable work of the members of the staff of Csc MonAvenir and to thank them for these innovative initiatives that help the students to become committed, proud of their identity, ready to build their future and reach their highest aspirations. Best wishes for the new school year!" stated André Blais, Director of Education.

The school year also begins with a new pastoral theme 'Hearts Aflame'. Just as the disciples met the resurrected Christ on the road to Emmaus, students find in the Catholic school a place where they can meet Jesus and deepen their relationship with him.

Staff members are invited to develop an accompanying community that builds relationships, compels involvement and inspires hope and develops joyful disciples. The French Catholic Teacher’s profile is aimed at supporting them in their mandate.

The staff members and trustees wish students and parents an excellent school year 2018-2019!

This year, the Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir will welcome close to 17,400 students, in its 59 schools: 46 elementary schools, 11 high schools and two combined elementary and high schools, established on a territory covering over 40,000 km2, extending from the Niagara Peninsula to Peterborough and from Lake Ontario (Toronto) to Georgian Bay.

Our vast network of French-speaking Catholic schools allows every student to become a member of a broad Francophone school community based on faith and to receive a top quality education in a learning environment that is rich, fair and inclusive.

The Csc MonAvenir is committed to making services and communications available to people living with a handicap. To receive any part of this document in another format, please complete the form on our website.
