A charity event from a local collectible shop is hoping to raise money for the Down Syndrome Association of Simcoe County.
The association was founded more than 20 years ago and has grown to now serve close to 100 member families. Its mission is to work together to increase public awareness and acceptance, while supporting and enhancing the lives of children living with Down syndrome.
Doug Laurie Sports & Auctions, which is located in the Kozlov Centre, will be hosting an online charity auction this summer, where all proceeds will benefit the association.
Leading up to the auction, Doug Laurie Sports is hosting its Cards, Comics and Collectibles show this weekend.
Doug Laurie Sports will be accepting donations of cards, memorabilia and sports-related items at the June Cards, Comics & Collectibles Show at the Kozlov Centre on Friday, June 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m and throughout the month of June at the store.
In addition, members of the association will be on hand Saturday to accept donations and supply more information about the organization.
In an effort to continue to support their programs and families, the association is asking businesses in the community if they would be willing to donate some items for auction.
Donated items do not need to be sports related. Gift cards are also welcomed and organizers say all donations will gladly have the donor's name or business added to that item's listing.
