Bayshore HealthCare’s rehabilitation and therapy services in Barrie is reporting two cases of COVID-19 in staff members at the Blake Street facility in the city's east end.

Stacey Grammick, regional director of operations for Bayshore Health Care, says they were informed Thursday of the two positive cases. She said all 13 patients at the facility have tested negative for the virus.

“Our patients and staff have all been regularly tested and none of our patients have tested positive even as early as this morning,” Grammick said Thursday night. “All of our patients, their families and all of our staff have been informed of today’s test results. We have extensive protocols in place in our facility.”

Protocols listed by Grammick include infection prevention and control procedures, which include staff donning and doffing personal protective equipment properly for the required droplet, contact or aerosol precautions, as well as regular monitoring and testing.

“At this moment, we have no background on where the two cases contacted COVID 19 and contact tracing is taking place,” she added.

Grammick said that, to her knowledge, none of the COVID cases at the facility have been identified as possible COVID-19 variant cases.

The outbreak is listed by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on their website as occurring at Barrie Manor Enhanced Care Community. While the Bayshore facility is adjacent to Barrie Manor, the two facilities share no staff or residents, and there are currently no COVID-19 cases at Barrie Manor, according to an official who spoke with BarrieToday on Thursday.

“Bayshore is located within Barrie Manor and does have some shared spaces,” said Kara Thomson-Ryczko, spokesperson for the health unit. “While it is not operated by Barrie Manor, that is its physical location which is why we’ve listed the outbreak as follows on the outbreak line list.”
