The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting another COVID-19 death out of the Bradford Valley long-term care facility.
A woman in her 80s, whose case was first reported April 7, has died. She was a resident at Bradford Valley, which has been in a COVID-19 outbreak since April 4.
On Saturday, April 12, a man in his 90s, also a resident at Bradford Valley, died. His death is being attributed to COVID-19.
The health unit has reported an additional eight confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Monday, bringing the region's total to 159, including nine deaths and 65 recoveries.
Of the eight reported today, none are additional cases at Bradford Valley.
Five of the new cases are from Barrie, including a man in his 20s, and a girl over the age of 10, both of whom are self-isolating. The source of their transmission is listed as 'under investigation'. There were three community-acquired cases reported out of Barrie, including a woman in her 30s, a man in his 70s, and a man in his 30s.
A Bradford child under 10 years old has reportedly contracted the virus through close contact. She is self-isolating.
The two other cases reported today include a man in his 20s from New Tecumseth (close contact) and a woman in her 80s from Muskoka Lakes.
There are now 45 reported cases of community-acquired transmission, 48 linked to travel, and 35 associated with close contact. There have been 23 cases confirmed in residents at Bradford Valley, including the two who have died. Of the total cases in the region, 50 people are self-isolating, 21 residents are isolated at Bradford Valley, and 12 people are hospitalized.
The case breakdown for towns and cities in Simcoe County is as follows: Bradford W-G (40), Barrie (36), New Tecumseth (18), Orillia (10), Collingwood (7), Innisfil (5), Springwater (5), Midland (4), Wasaga Beach (4), Oro-Medonte (4), Adjala-Tosorontio (2), Clearview (2), Essa (2), Ramara (2), Tiny (2), Penetanguishene (2).
There are also 14 cases confirmed in the Muskoka Region.
The infection rate for Simcoe Muskoka region is 25.5 lab-confirmed cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 53.5 cases per 100,000 population.
Two men, both in their 70s and who had pre-existing medical conditions, died last month from the virus at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie. One of the men was visiting from Alberta. Hospital officials later confirmed the two men were related.
