In the wake of COVID-19, Molded Precision Components (MCP), a local Oro-Medonte business, pivoted their operation and resources to deliver a scalable tooling platform that will provide over 27 million personal protective equipment (PPE) face shields (Shield-U) to fulfill federal and provincial government contracts by Fall, 2020.

In addition, MPC, in partnership with Sterling Industries, is donating approximately 25,000 face shields to the local community ranging from front-line workers, to health-care/personal services professionals.

David Yeaman, President of MPC, has deep roots in Oro-Medonte with a strong belief in supporting local businesses, community groups and residents. Following this belief, MPC will be donating 500 Shield-U face shields to fire and emergency services departments throughout Simcoe County including: Oro-Medonte Fire & Emergency Services, Midland Fire Department, Orillia Fire Department, Penetanguishene Fire Department, Rama Fire & Rescue, Ramara Fire & Rescue, Wasaga Beach Fire Department, and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services.

“MPC recognizes that at this time, appropriate PPE is not readily available for frontline workers and others," said Yeaman. "This is why in addition to emergency services, we have been donating to other businesses to assist with their re-openings.”

Oro-Medonte Fire and Emergency Services and other fire departments within Simcoe County are running low on some forms of PPE.

Oro-Medonte Fire Chief Hugh Murray commented: “We are very appreciative and grateful for the donation from MPC. Shield-U face shields are being donated at a good time, and provides a crucial level of safety and comfort for firefighters and emergency services personnel.”

On behalf of Oro-Medonte Council, Mayor Harry Hughes extends congratulations to MPC for pivoting their business during the public health crisis.

"It is wonderful to see a local Oro-Medonte business design and manufacture these important pieces of PPE," said Hughes. "Thank you to Mr. Yeaman and his team for their generous donation to the local community.”
