NEWS RELEASE
ANDREA KHANJIN, BARRIE-INNISFIL MPP
*************************
To support the work of the Ontario Jobs and Recovery Committee, under the recently announced A Framework for Reopening our Province, MPP Andrea Khanjin will be holding a series of telephone and virtual consultations.

Under the framework, the Government of Ontario is embarking on an outreach strategy that includes contributions from Members of Provincial Parliament. MPP’s contributions will help inform the Ontario Jobs and Recovery Committee’s work in assessing the economic impacts of COVID-19 and identifying how the economy is to be reopened.

MPP Khanjin’s consultations with local businesses, not-for-profits and other community leaders in Barrie and Innisfil will form the basis for her contributions to the process.

“COVID-19 is, and continues to be, first and foremost, a health crisis,” said MPP Andrea Khanjin. “Ontario listened to the advice of health professionals and implemented the public health measures necessary to prevent the worst possible outcomes of the pandemic. These actions are showing early signs of success at stopping the spread of the virus and flattening the curve.”

“Like my colleagues in the Government, I recognize that we are also experiencing an economic crisis,” added MPP Khanjin. “In the past few weeks, I have been having discussions with local businesses and groups to identify the economic impacts that COVID-19 is having in Barrie and Innisfil. I am pleased to be able to build on those discussions with a series of consultations.”

“As a Member of Provincial Parliament, I represent the people of Barrie—Innisfil both inside the Legislative Assembly and by advocating directly to members of Cabinet,” continued MPP Khanjin. “The Premier and Minister of Finance have been clear that they want to know about the local impacts and priorities of every community in Ontario so that gaps in supports can be addressed and Ontario’s longterm prosperity restored.”

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
On April 27, the Government of Ontario released A Framework for Reopening our Province. This document outlines the criteria Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts will use to advise the government on the loosening of emergency measures. The Framework provides guiding principles for the safe, gradual reopening of businesses, services and public spaces. To reopen the economy, the government will consider factors such as the risk of the spread of COVID-19 and the ability to implement protective measures to keep workplaces safe.
