Like many Canadians, Sharon Rice of Barrie was thinking how to best support her community and show her appreciation for front-line workers when the COVID-19 hit.

Sharon then thought of helping the best way she knew how: pedicures.

“I thought, what would be really special,” said Rice.

“Everyone likes a foot massage especially after working long shifts on your feet,” continued Rice. “A pedicure I thought then would be well received, so I began ‘100 pedicures for front-line workers’.”

Sharon, who owns and runs Beauty FX, a nail studio and day spa, is also a member of Ripple of Kindness Barrie. When she began the initiative, Ripple of Kindness shared the message on their social media channels asking people to nominate a front-line worker for a free pedicure.

The nominations for pedicures began coming in in late March and Sharon began welcoming people in for their free pedicure when businesses began to open in late June.

“I know 100 does not touch everyone who deserves one,” said Rice. “But it has been so inspiring and I have felt very privileged to meet these people.

“When I started receiving all the positive replies from those who were being nominated for their pedicure, it warmed my heart,” continued Rice.

Earlier this month, RBC, through their new program Random Acts of Canadian, surprised Sharon with a $250 donation to support with her initiative. The RBC program was created to shine the spotlight on local community heroes going beyond the call of duty to ensure their community emerges even stronger from the pandemic. Sharon will also be featured on the national program’s website randomactsofcanadian.com.

“Meeting these amazing people, I have felt proud knowing they are a part of our community,” said Rice. “I love what I do.”
