Two people charged with impaired within an hour

Two men, one from Gilford and the other from Newmarket, have been charged in separate incidents

South Simcoe Police Service officers laid impaired driving charges in separate incidents less than an hour apart yesterday.

The first incident occurred at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, when a citizen called police to report an erratic driver on County Road 89 in Innisfil. After police stopped the vehicle, the driver was arrested and transported to South Division.

 A 41-year-old Gilford man was charged with over 80 and refusal to comply with a breath test demand.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

The second arrest happened at 5:09 p.m. in Bradford when police were called to a collision involving a suspected impaired driver in a parking lot on Holland Street West. After the driver failed a roadside screening device test, he was arrested and transported to South Division. His breath tests resulted in readings of twice the legal limit.  

A 32-year-old Newmarket man was charged with impaired driving and over 80. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. No one was hurt in the collision.
