Traffic stop leads to drug charges

The Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police made a drug arrest following a stunt driving incident in the City of Barrie.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on March 13, 2018, a member of the Barrie OPP conducted a traffic stop for a stunt driving offence on St. Vincent Street in the City of Barrie. 

The driver, Akeen Llewellyn, age 23 of Barrie, was arrested by police for stunt driving. The involved motor vehicle was subsequently seized and impounded for a period of seven days. Police have located a large quantity of cash and edible drugs consistent with drug trafficking as a result of the arrest and seizure. 

The accused is charged with the following offences:

  • One count of possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • One count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • One count of stunt driving contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. 

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear on May 7, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie, Ont.
