Traffic stop in Innisfil turns up loaded gun, drugs

Police seized these items during a traffic stop Tuesday in Innisfil.

An overnight traffic stop in Innisfil led to South Simcoe police seizing a loaded handgun, drugs and the arrest of two Scarborough men.

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, at approximately 2 a.m., an officer patrolling in the area of Yonge Street and Innisfil Beach Road stopped a vehicle for an alleged traffic violation. Police say the officer detected an odour of cannabis and allegedly observed drug paraphernalia in the front-seat area.

The vehicle was searched under the Cannabis Control Act, and, during the search police say they seized a loaded handgun, ammunition, cash and a quantity of drugs, including suspected cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and cannabis.

As a result of the investigation, two men from Scarborough were charged with more than 30 offences.

Jonathan Ostiguy, 38, has been charged with possession of drugs including suspected cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, mushrooms, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.

Brandon Perez, 25, has been charged with disobeying court order, firearm or weapon possession contrary to prohibition order, possession of drugs including suspected cocaine, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm and trafficking in suspected heroin.

Both of the accused were held for a bail hearing.
