Barrie police have charged a man with holding up a downtown bank on Feb. 10.

On Friday, Feb. 28, a 40-year-old Toronto man was arrested in Barrie and now faces several charges after a robbery at the Bank of Montreal branch at 90 Collier St. The man, whose name has not been released, was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.

On Monday, Feb. 10, at 9:45 a.m., city police responded to report of a robbery at the downtown bank. Upon arrival, uniformed officers determined the lone suspect indicated he had a firearm and demanded money from the teller.

An undisclosed amount of currency was obtained and the suspect fled the scene on foot, making his way to a nearby City of Barrie parking lot.

At this location, police say he discarded his disguise and attempted to blend in with his surroundings.

At the scene, a police canine unit was able to track the suspect and located the discarded clothing that he had been wearing. However, due to heavy pedestrian traffic in the area, it was terminated in an area near the Barrie Public Library.
