The Barrie Police Service is requesting the assistance of the public with regard to an ongoing robbery investigation.

On Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, at 9:45 a.m., police responded to report of a robbery at the Bank of Montreal located at 90 Collier Street in the City of Barrie.

Upon arrival, it was determined by uniformed officers that the lone suspect involved had indicated that he had a firearm and demanded money from the bank teller.

An undisclosed amount of Canadian currency was obtained and the suspect fled the scene on foot running north on Mulcaster Street and west onto Worsley Street, where he made his way to a nearby City of Barrie parking lot.

It was at this location that he discarded his disguise and attempted to publicly reintroduce himself in a way that allowed him to blend in better with those around him.

At the scene, the Barrie Police Canine Unit was able to track the fleeing suspect and located the discarded clothing that he had been wearing. The track continued, however, due to heavy pedestrian traffic in the area, it was terminated in an area near the Barrie Public Library.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Barrie Police Investigative Services and the Forensic Identification Unit.

From witness interviews and surveillance video from within the bank, police are able to provide the following description of the suspect who carried out this early morning robbery:

  • Male white, 5’9” tall, 25-27 years old, medium build, short thin brown hair.
  • Wearing - Orange coloured medical mask, black toque, dark thick black hooded jacket with black on shoulders and blue on body area, black backpack with logo on rear, blue jeans pants, black running shoes with white soles.
