Suspect sought in Food Basics shoplifting incident

City police allege female suspect stole more than $850 worth of ointments and over-the-counter medications

The Barrie Police Service is appealing to the public for assistance after a theft was reported in the City of Barrie.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, police responded to the Food Basics located at 555 Essa Rd., after it was determined that a female suspect entered the store shortly after 1:30 p.m., removed a quantity of over-the-counter non-prescription medication and ointments, placed them in a large purse and left the store without paying for them.

The value of the stolen items is in excess of $850 and the entire incident was clearly captured by the store on video surveillance.

Police are seeking to identify the suspect who is described as:

  • Middle Eastern, in her 30's or 40's, approximately 5'2, and a slim build. She was wearing black heel boots with a long ankle length leopard print dress. She was wearing a dark blue Hijab with glasses on her head.
