SIU invokes mandate following fatal overnight crash in Adjala

The crash happened after police say they attempted to stop a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and the vehicle fled after being stopped initially

On Saturday, April 3, 2021 at approximately 12:08 a.m., a member of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was travelling southbound on County Road 50 in Adjala-Tosorontio Township when they observed a observed a vehicle travelling northbound at a high rate of speed.

The officer initiated a traffic stop on the 20th Sideroad, but vehicle fled. The officer remained at the initial location. The suspect vehicle later located a short distance away, where it had been involved in a single motor vehicle collision. The lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The OPP has notified the provincial Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and it has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information about this occurrence. Any inquiries should be directed to SIU Communication at 1-800-787-8529.
