School zone collision leads to impaired driving charge

On Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, just after 3 p.m., police responded to a report of a collision within a school zone on Bronte Crescent in the City of Barrie.

When officers arrived they, located a woman inside a vehicle which appeared to have come to an abrupt stop after colliding with an unoccupied vehicle parked on the opposite side of the street. The collision had been witnessed by a nearby resident who called 9-1-1 after removing the keys from the vehicle, in belief that the driver was impaired.   

A 22-year-old woman was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the station for further testing. While in custody the woman refused to provide the required breath samples and as a result she was further charged with fail to provide a breath sample.

The 22-year-old woman did not suffer any injuries and will appear in bail court on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017.
