Police seek witnesses after crash leaves pedestrian fighting for his life

'If he was your family member, you would want witnesses to come forward. It’s just the right thing to do,' says police official

A male pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle yesterday afternoon in downtown Barrie.

At 2:18 p.m., Wednesday, police responded to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at Simcoe and Mary streets.

A man in his mid-50s was critically injured and is currently in a Toronto-area trauma centre where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Maple Avenue was closed for approximately two hours as police continued their on-scene investigation.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon says he believes someone saw something and is appealing for people to come forward with information.

“Given the location of this collision, we are confident that at that time of the day, although physically distancing, that someone either walking, cycling or driving in the area of Simcoe and Mary streets saw something that can assist us with this ongoing investigation," he said.

"If he was your family member, you would want witnesses to come forward with any information they may have," Leon added. "It’s just the right thing to do.”

If you were in the area and witnessed the collision, police are asking that you email [email protected] with information.
