Police seek assistance identifying theft suspect

The suspect was stopped by loss prevention and the items were returned, but the suspect quickly fled on foot

The Barrie Police are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect following a theft at Joe’s No Frills, located at 165 Wellington St. W., in the City of Barrie.

On Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, a man and woman had been captured on video surveillance selecting several grocery items. The male concealed the items into a backpack, which he then placed on the shoulders of a child that had accompanied them.

Upon leaving the store, the suspect was stopped by loss prevention and the items were returned, although the suspect quickly fled on foot. The woman, along with the child, had been observed leaving the area in a black Chevrolet car.

The suspect is described as;

  • Male (35 to 40 years)
  • Heavy build
  • Tattoo (tear drop) below right eye
  • Wearing a white baseball hat and a dark blue Under Armour hoodie.
