Police searching for driver who sped away from officer in Cookstown

The pickup truck, which had stolen licence plates, was last seen northbound on Highway 27

INNISFIL - South Simcoe Police Service officers are seeking the public’s help to identify a suspect after a vehicle failed to stop for police in Cookstown.

On Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at 10:15 a.m., an officer observed an older, blue and black Dodge Ram pickup truck at a gas station on Queen Street.

Investigation determined the licence plate did not belong to the truck.

When the truck pulled out of the gas station and went westbound on Highway 89, the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The vehicle began to pull over but then accelerated away from police.

The officer did not pursue the vehicle which was last seen northbound on Highway 27.

Police are releasing security camera images in an attempt to identify the suspect.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • White
  • Approximately 6 feet tall 

Clothing description

  • Orange construction jacket
  • Blue pants with a high vis stripe
  • Black baseball hat with a possible 40th logo on it.
