Police remind parents to check Halloween candy

South Simcoe Police are asking parents to inspect their children's Halloween candy.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, police were informed by a parent that a sharp object was found inside a candy her daughter received on Halloween night while out trick-or-treating in the Alcona area. The victim was not hurt or injured.

After Trick or Treating:

  • Parents should sort and check treats in a well-lit area before eating.
  • Throw away candy or food that is not wrapped and sealed by a candy or
  • food company.
  • Carefully check all wrappers for signs of tampering.
  • Always wash and cut open fruit before taking a bite.
  • If any harmful items are found, notify police immediately.
