There was a heavy police presence at a south-end Barrie plaza on Wednesday afternoon, but very few details have been released.

Several Barrie police officers descended on a south-end plaza midday Wednesday, some with their weapons drawn, but no details are being released about what appeared to be a tense situation.

What led to the call remains unclear, but there were close to a dozen officers, including members of the tactical unit, and several police vehicles in the plaza parking lot near the corner of Mapleview Drive West and Reid Drive.

Video posted to social media shows several officers with weapons out surrounding what appears to be a black two-door sports car.

Officers then shout for an individual, or individuals, to get out of the vehicle with their hands up, informing them that they were under arrest.

Sirens could be heard in the background and the video shows numerous officers at the scene.

At one point in the video, officers can be seen opening the trunk of the car and looking inside.

Police officials have not said what the call was for.

“Due to the ongoing investigation, I am not in a position to comment at this time,” said Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon.

BarrieToday will have more information is details become available.
