Police investigate ultralight plane crash

TINY TOWNSHIP - On Sunday Sept. 0, 2017, at approximately 6:24 p.m., officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a plane crash involving an ultralight aircraft. Also in attendance was the Tiny Township Fire Department and the Georgian Bay Ambulance Service.

Upon arrival at a private airstrip located near Mertz Corner Road and Baseline Road in Tiny Township, police learned that the ultralight plane was attempting to land and for reasons yet to be determined, ended up in a nearby cornfield.

The pilot, who is a male in his early 50's, has been taken to a nearby hospital where he is being treated for what are described as serious injuries. It is expected that he will be transported by Air Ambulance to a Toronto area trauma centre once he is stabilized.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has been notified and will be attending the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash. The OPP will remain at the scene until they arrive and will continue with their investigation.
