Police investigate fatal motorcycle collision

TOWNSHIP Of SEVERN - On Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at approximately 2:23 p.m., officers from the Orillia and Southern Georgian Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Vasey Road at the ramp to southbound Highway 400 in Township of Severn.

Upon arrival at the scene, police located a motor vehicle and motorcycle that had been involved in a collision. From the initial investigation, it was determined that the passenger car was in the process of conducting a turning maneuver when it was struck by a motorcycle that was travelling westbound on Vasey Road.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 73-year male from the Township of Severn, was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

The Orillia OPP and the Central Region Technical Traffic Collision Unit remained on scene and conducted their investigation into this traffic fatality until road was re-opened at 6:45 p.m.
