Provincial police say a plane caught fire after the pilot crash-landed in a field near the Edenvale Aerodrome yesterday afternoon, but escaped without injuries.

According to the Huronia West OPP, officers and other emergency crews were called to the crash on March 4 in Springwater Township.

The plane went down in a farm field near Edenvale in the area of Highway 26 and Strongville Road, about 25 minutes west of Barrie.

"The pilot was the only occupant in the aircraft and was able to conduct an emergency landing of the plane, escaping uninjured," states a police news release.

The aircraft did catch fire, but emergency crews on scene were able to put the fire out and keep it contained.

"At this time, it is unclear what caused the pilot to conduct an emergency landing and ground the aircraft," according to OPP.

The plane has been cleared out of the field.
