INNISFIL - A weekend incident on Lake Simcoe could have had a tragic outcome if it weren't for life-jackets.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020 at 6:20 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service attended the Park Road area in Innisfil for a report of two people who had fallen off a personal watercraft (PWC) in the north end of the lake.

A female rider had managed to swim to the PWC and floated to shore in Innisfil in heavy winds after drifting for nearly two hours. The woman had lost sight of her boyfriend, who was also wearing a life jacket.

Marine 1 and Innisfil Fire and Rescue Service responded and marine units from multiple police agencies were asked to attend. Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre Trenton was asked to provide air support. Police conducted a shoreline search on foot.

At 7:10 p.m., the man was observed swimming toward shore. The couple headed home safe and sound after being assessed and cleared by paramedics.

This is not the first time this summer that citizens can credit life-jackets for a safe, happy outcome. Life-jackets save lives. Ensure you have one and wear it when out on the water.
