All students were safely removed from the school and area.

However, there remains a police presence concentrated on Queen Street between Hanna and Yonge Street for "continued investigation."

ORIGINAL STORY:
Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers are in pursuit of an individual in a stolen vehicle in Midland.

This afternoon, police began pursuit of a stolen vehicle containing three suspects at Walmart, before the vehicle was abandoned near a public utilities building on Highway 12, OPP officials say.

“Three people exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Two were arrested, and a third stole a second vehicle,” Const. Aaron Coulter explained. “The second vehicle was stolen near that area.”

Central Region OPP initially tweeted about a heavy police presence in the area south of Highway 12, between Jones Road and Highway 93, but that presence has now shifted to the area of Yonge Street to Robert Street and Russell Street to King Street.

“We've gotten many officers containing an area while we search for this person,” Coulter said.

As a result of the investigation, Huron Park Public School in Midland has been placed in a hold and secure.

According to the school board, during a hold and secure, activities continue inside the building, but all exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building.
