TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is proud to welcome three new members to the OPP Auxiliary Unit.

On Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, Carleigh Morello-Love, Christian D'Alessandro and Mckayla Cotey partook in the OPP Auxiliary graduation ceremony at the OPP General Headquarters in Orillia after successful completion of required training. They now join the Nottawasaga OPP Auxiliary Unit, under the direction of Auxiliary Staff Sgt. Andy McDougall.

Auxiliary Staff Sgt. McDougall stated that the new auxiliary officers will be joining the unit at a very busy time of the year as auxiliary members will be called upon to assist OPP officers during back to school safety initiatives, Lock It or Lose It and SafeGuard neighbourhood campaigns.

The OPP auxiliary program was originally formed in 1960 by an order-in-council. In 1991, the program became self-directed. Members of the OPP auxiliary are unpaid, fully trained volunteers. Auxiliary officers' duties include traffic control, surveys, seat belt clinics, local community events, assisting with RIDE initiatives, bicycle inspections, as well as foot, bicycle and road patrols with regular members.

Auxiliary officers also accompany regular OPP officers during ceremonial duties, and are respected and valued members of the OPP. The auxiliary program and the members themselves are integral to our OPP family.

The motto of the OPP auxiliary is "Volunteers for a Better Community." The OPP Auxiliary Program is looking for members of the community to serve as volunteers with the Ontario Provincial Police.

Keep an eye out for our newest auxiliary members in our community and feel free to say hello!
