How sweet it is: More than $600K in chocolate, nuts recovered after tractor-trailer heists

Three people have been charged in York Region investigation which began in November

More than $600,000 in stolen chocolate and nuts, along with two stolen tractor-trailers, have been recovered as part of an ongoing cargo theft investigation by the York Regional Police Auto/Cargo Theft Unit.

The investigation began in November 2020 when investigators identified a group involved in stealing loads of cargo.

As the investigation unfolded, investigators located a stolen tractor-trailer loaded with 55 skids of chocolate, worth $360,000, in the City of Toronto.

On Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, investigators located a second stolen tractor-trailer in the City of Vaughan loaded with 22 skids of pecans, worth $270,000.

Investigators were able to identify [an alleged] crime group involved in stealing loads of cargo. Multiple arrests have been made, search warrants executed and charges laid.

Charged:  

  • Sunil Masoun, 41, City of Toronto  
  • Manpreet Samra, 41, City of Brampton  
  • Varinder Dhillon, 35, City of Brampton

Charges Include:  

  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000  
  • Theft of motor vehicle over $5,000  
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000  
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – heroin, crystal methamphetamine  
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle  
  • Flight from police
