Man struck after car slams into light standard in Orillia

Orillia OPP are continuing to investigate the incident which occurred Monday morning on Mississaga Street East

Orillia OPP reported an elderly female driver has been charged with careless driving. They could not provide further details.

ORIGINAL STORY

It was a tough Monday morning for a pedestrian walking in downtown Orillia earlier today.

It appears a driver, attempting to back into a parking spot on Mississaga Street in front of Lahay’s Hobby & Crafts, struck a light standard. As the light standard crashed to the ground, it struck a man who was walking by.

The man was taken to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital to be assessed. His condition is not known.

The investigation is ongoing, said Orillia OPP Const. Martin Hill, who noted Rama Paramedics and Orillia Fire also assisted at the scene in downtown Orillia.

No other information was released by police.
