BRADFORD - On Tuesday, March 20, 2018 a 29-year-old Lefroy man surrendered to South Simcoe Police Service at the South Division in Bradford West Gwillimbury. The man was charged with assault, utter death threats, utter threats - burn or destroy property and mischief to property.

The charges follow an investigation that began on Sunday, March 18, 2018. A woman went to the South Division to report her suspicion that her common-law spouse of four years had (allegedly) attempted to run her over with his car. She said they were arguing in a parking lot over her efforts to get him medical help for personal problems.

During an interview with police, the woman described an abusive relationship. She disclosed an incident last month during which she was assaulted and her spouse threatened to burn down their house. Officers escorted the woman to pick up her belongings and alternate living arrangements were made for her personal safety until the accused was arrested.

Officers gave the woman a safety plan. The accused was held for bail.
