Local driver charged with impaired during traffic stop

He's also charged with speeding after being clocked at 126 km/h in a 80 km/h zone

An Innisfil man was charged with impaired driving and speeding following a traffic stop in Innisfil.

On Friday, Aug. 28, 2020 at approximately 12:20 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting radar enforcement observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on County Road 4 between Line 2 and Line 3. A speed measurement was obtained of 126 km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone.

A traffic stop was conducted and the officer detected signs of impairment. After a fail was registered on a roadside screening device, the driver was arrested and transported to South Division where breath test results were over the legal limit of alcohol.

Fifty-five-year-old Roderick Catapang of Innisfil was charged with over 80 and speeding. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
