Innisfil man sentenced in overdose death case

A 25-year-old Innisfil man has been handed a five-year sentence in connection with the overdose death of 23-year-old Shawn Kelly.

Kelly was found deceased in his Innisfil home on April 10, 2017.

Toxicology results confirmed Kelly died of an overdose of fentanyl and heroin.

Ryan Walker pleaded guilty in December in Barrie court to criminal negligence causing death and trafficking in a controlled substance.

On Tuesday, March 12, 2019, Walker was sentenced to five years for criminal negligence causing death and three years concurrent to trafficking fentanyl.

With credit for pre-sentence custody and cooperating with the prosecution, Walker has 13 months and 15 days left to serve on his sentence.

The sentence also includes the following:

  • weapons prohibition for life
  • DNA order to databank
  • two years probation upon release - several conditions

A 55-year-old Innisfil man remains before the courts on a charge of manslaughter.
