The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is pleased to formally announce that Insp. Leah Gilfoy has been appointed as the detachment commander. Insp. Gilfoy has proudly served our community since October 2021 as the interim detachment commander and after a successful selection process was confirmed on March 2, 2022.

Insp. Gilfoy is a proven police leader with over 30 years of combined dedicated service with Toronto Police Service, Orangeville Police Service and the OPP. She is also a former deputy chief of police and a zone director for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP). Currently, she is the chair of the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement (OWLE) Advisory Council and a member of the OPP Sexual Harassment Prevention Project.

Insp. Gilfoy is a graduate of McMaster University with a bachelor of arts in sociology, honours diploma in human resource management from Humber College, graduate of the Police Leadership Program at the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Business and Graduate of the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy of Police Leadership Program. She has extensive professional development in areas of learning including but not limited to police leadership, police science, investigative and professional courses.

Insp. Gilfoy also has extensive operational, administrative and leadership experience in areas such as uniform, neighbourhood policing, planning, criminal investigations, major crimes, drug investigations, crime management, executive administration, professional standards, duty inspector, staff development and planning and business finance. 

"As a proud resident of Wasaga Beach with a vested interest in the betterment of our policing services within our community, I am honored to be your detachment commander for Huronia West. I am looking forward to leading the men and women of the OPP Huronia detachment and developing those respectful and honest working partnerships within the community to improve and ensure that our communities are safe, our citizens are protected and public safety is preserved now and into the future," interim detachment commander Leah Gilfoy said.

The OPP is committed to building trusting and collaborative relationships with its communities, stakeholders and partners to better serve the community and keep its citizens safe.
