NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE SERVICE
*************************
On Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, South Simcoe Police Service kicked off Ontario's annual Crime Prevention Week, which runs from Nov. 5 to 11, 2017. The week long promotion of crime prevention is  supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Service, and all police services across Ontario.

"Preventing crimes from taking place and effective partnering with the community to address criminal activities when they happen is how we build safe communities," said Sergeant Lewis DaSilva. "Ontario communities are among the safest in the world. But we can't stand still when it comes to crime. That's why our service is committed to partnering with community leaders, young people, businesses, and government to prevent crime."

This week, South Simcoe Police Service will be actively advising local residents to avoid becoming victims of crime. With our Lock It Or Lose It campaign, we advise drivers to remove valuables and lock their cars. Our Safe Roads, Your Call program is designed to alert police to impaired driving, by partnering with citizens who call in when they suspect an impaired driver.

The OACP released the top ten crimes that take up most of a police officer’s day.

  • Residential break and enters
  • Impaired/drugged driving
  • Cyber crime/identity theft
  • Fraud - Online exchanges
  • Theft from vehicles/theft of vehicles
  • Theft of bicycles
  • Theft from garages, lockers, mail boxes, sheds, and front porches (deliveries)
  • Awareness of your surroundings to prevent assaults
  • Pharmacy thefts/robberies
  • Theft of prescription drugs
