Four males were assaulted and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after an incident early Sunday morning in downtown Barrie.

Barrie city police said the incident took place at 2:24 a.m. near 34 Dunlop St. E., and particularly in an alley that runs between Collier Street and Dunlop Street East.

“They were basically in the alleyway and there was an interaction between them and another group of males, and it turned violent very, very quickly,” said Peter Leon, corporate communication co-ordinator with Barrie police. “No weapons, just it would appear that they were physically assaulted.”

It’s unknown how many people police are looking for, he said.

“There was a large number of males in that alley that interacted with the four that ultimately were injured and taken to hospital,” Leon said.

Police said the four males were taken by ambulance to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and treated.
