Fire destroys Gravenhurst cottage, causing $2.5M in damages

Fire marshal called in to investigate the blaze; The cottage was under construction at the time of the fire

A devastating fire destroyed a cottage under construction on District of Muskoka Road 169, Monday.

When Gravenhurst firefighters arrived on the scene, the home was ablaze.

While the new cottage in west Gravenhurst was ravaged by the fire, other structures on the property were saved thanks to the quick work of the first arriving units.

Officials estimate the fire caused about $2.5 million in damages.

As a result of the value of the loss, the Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Gravenhurst firefighters said they were thankful for the efforts of the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, who also responded to the fire and provided support.
