Emergency crews responded to a crash on Bayfield Street in Barrie, Tuesday afternoon, involving a car and a school bus.

An elderly man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a crash involving an SUV and a school bus on Bayfield Street, Tuesday.

Shortly before 4 p.m., March 14, Barrie police say officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Bayfield Street, north of Wellington Street, involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a stopped school bus.

"Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that the bus, which had no passengers on it, had been stopped in the curb lane north of the Mid-Town Centre Plaza when it was struck by the 81-year-old driver of the SUV," police said in a news release.

The man was taken to local hospital by Simcoe County paramedics with what were described as "non-life-threatening injuries."

Bayfield Street was closed for a short period of time to allow for police to safely investigate the collision and for tow trucks to remove the involved motor vehicles.

The Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit continues to investigate.
