East-end residents warned to check yards for discarded firearm

Residents around Steel, Melrose, Strabane, Rodney, Cook and Duckworth should be on the lookout following morning investigation

Barrie police are alerting east-end residents to be aware that a firearm may have been discarded in the area following a Saturday morning incident.

They are warning residents in the area of Steel Street, Melrose Avenue, Strabane Avenue, Rodney Street, Cook Street and Duckworth Street to check their backyards before letting children go outside to play.

Residents in the area are being encouraged to check their properties thoroughly.

Anyone who discovers a weapon is asked to call 911 immediately.

Police say they have arrested four people following an incident that occurred this morning shortly after 8 a.m.

The warning was prompted after city police say they received additional information.

No other details about the investigation have been released.
