Dog involved in unexpected joy ride

Barrie Police Service is looking for assistance in identifying a suspect in a theft of motor vehicle after a crime of opportunity had the victim's dog involved in an unexpected joy ride.

On Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at approximately 6:45 p.m. the victim was pumping gas at the Ultramar located at 71 Anne Street South, in the the City of Barrie. 

Upon leaving the vehicle to pay for the pumped fuel, a male suspect entered the vehicle and sped away with the victim's dog still in the rear seat.

Officers searched the area and neighbouring police services were notified of the stolen vehicle, however the vehicle was located shortly after 1 a.m. by the owner in the area of Robert Street and Dufferin Street, in the City of Barrie.

The dog was found, unharmed, still in the back seat with the windows down. However the contents of the vehicle had been removed including personal identification, financial cards and a variety of tools, valued at over $1,000, used daily by the victim for employment. 

Description:

  • Male. white
  • Approximately 5-foot-7, slender build
  • 23- to 26-years-old
  • Wearing a navy blue Adidas baseball hat, a dark green t-shirt with "BUFFALO" stamped on the front, camouflage shorts and black Under Armour flip-flop sandals
