A confrontation between officers and a member of the public on Third Street resulted in the street’s closure on Wednesday afternoon, however police remain tight-lipped on the details of what occurred. The SIU (Special Investigations Unit) is now investigating and confirmed in a Tweet that an OPP officer fatally shot a man.
The altercation occurred near Third and Beech streets on Wednesday afternoon. A section of Third Street was closed temporarily for the investigation.

According to police, there is no threat to public safety after members of the Central Region OPP emergency response team cleared the area.
The SIU has been contacted and will invoke its mandate in regards to the incident.
While initial details surrounding the incident being released by police have been light, the SIU only investigates incidents involving the police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
OPP Sgt. Jason Folz said more information would be released by police as it becomes available.
