An Essa Road hydro pole was snapped off by a vehicle late Wednesday night, closing a portion of the Barrie street until Thursday morning.

Just before 11:50 p.m., Wednesday, police were called to the Essa Road crash, between Burton Avenue and Innisfil Street.

Peter Leon, communications co-ordinator with city police, said the vehicle left the roadway, hit the pole and power lines came down.

“Apparently, the pole was snapped on contact, so it had to be totally replaced,” he told BarrieToday. “Certainly there were wires down.”

The driver was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries, Leon said.

The crash is still being investigated by the police traffic unit.

Essa Road, between Burton and Innisfil, reopened at approximately 10 a.m., Thursday.
