Collision with fire hydrant leads to impaired charges in Angus

Essa Township resident also charged with resisting police and two counts of abandoning a child

ESSA TWP. — Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested one person after responding to a single vehicle collision.

On June 7, 2022 at approximately 2:20 p.m., police received a call regarding a single-vehicle collision on the front lawn of a residence. The vehicle stopped, resting on top of a fire hydrant.

The incident took place on Greenwood Drive in Angus, Essa Township. Police arrived on scene along with paramedics.

No injuries were reported for the driver or the two vehicle passengers.

As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Jerilyn Melen of Essa Township has been arrested and charged with the following:
    •    Resist peace officer
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
    •    Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
    •    Abandoning child - two counts

The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on July 14, 2022

Police are looking to speak with any witnesses that may have been in the area at the time of the incident.
