Collision shuts down part of Bayfield for lunch-hour rush

'The biggest concern for police with a collision like this is the sheer volume of traffic and the time of the day'

No one was seriously injuried in a collision earlier today at Bayfield Street and Ferris Lane, but the investigation made getting around the area much tougher than usual.

Just before noon, city police were called to the busy north-end intersection for a two-vehicle crash.

The area was blocked off for the investigation.

Barrie police Const. Doug Bosch told BarrieToday that the occupants in both vehicles sustained minor injuries, but did not need any further treatment.

"No one is going to be transported to hospital, though there is signicant vehicle damage that is now being towed from the scene," said Bosch, adding the collision remains under investigation.

With the crash happening around the lunch hour, there was significant congestion in the area.

"The biggest concern for police with a collision like this is the sheer volume of traffic and the time of the day," Bosch said. "Trying to secure a scene and investigate it while traffic is backed up makes it particularly difficult for police."

The area has since been reopened, but there was no word on possible charges.
