Current councillor and deputy-mayor candidate Bob Madigan has been charged with assault, according to court documents.
Court documents show Madigan is accused of assault following an alleged incident that occurred on Monday, Sept. 5 in Collingwood.
Madigan was arrested on Sept. 6.
The documents were sworn in to the court on Sept. 12.
There are no details in the court documents about what allegedly occurred to prompt the assault charge. CollingwoodToday is withholding any information which could potentially identify the victim.
Madigan could not be reached for comment on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Madigan is in his second term as a town councillor and is running for deputy mayor in the upcoming municipal election on Oct. 24. He's a local business owner and entrepreneur.
None of the allegations against Madigan have been tested in court.
Madigan's first appearance is scheduled for Sept. 27 at the Collingwood courthouse.
According to the Criminal Code of Canada, a person is guilty of committing an assault when they apply force intentionally to another person, directly or indirectly, without consent, and/or when a person attempts or threatens, by an act or gesture, to apply force to another person.
