BRADFORD - On Sunday, March 18, 2018 around 10:40 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to Canal Road. A citizen reported that a man and woman had pulled into his driveway in a 2014 black Jaguar.

A 54-year-old Brampton woman told the caller that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend claimed the woman had been drinking, adding she was driving and asked that police be called. The couple left shortly after speaking to the caller.

The investigating officer arrived but could not find the vehicle or the couple. Around 11:40 p.m., police received a second call regarding the same couple and the same vehicle.

The woman reported that she and her boyfriend had been arguing when he pulled the vehicle over and assaulted her. The woman had returned to the Canal Road home looking for help. A resident drove the woman back to her car where they spotted her boyfriend get in the Jaguar and drive off.

The boyfriend went looking for the woman at the home where she had received assistance. When police arrived on scene, the investigating officer noticed an odour of alcohol on the man’s breath. The officer issued a demand for a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device. The test resulted in a fail.

A 44-year-old Bradford West Gwillimbury man was charged with assault, choking, impaired driving, over 80, driving while disqualified and breach of recognizance. The man was released on a Promise to Appear and undertaking with conditions to refrain from communicating with the victim.
